Step Seven: Creating Shapes with the Paint Brush Tool:

The simplest way to create Shapes is with the Paint Brush Tool. You do not need to Break Apart Shapes created with the Paint Brush Tool. When you create a shape with the Paint Brush Tool the Shape is ready to use as a Shape Tween.

Objects created with the Paint Brush Tool behave slightly differently than those created with Text Tool. When you paint a Shape with the Paint Brush Tool it is automatically grouped. You can see this by the blue outline:

Painted Shape: Automatically Grouped.

If yo wish you can break apart a Painted shape: Modify > Break Apart (Ctrl B)

Painted Shape: Broken Apart.

All other grouped objects (such as Text) need to be broken apart to be Shape Tweened. Painted objects do not. The Timeline can help you see if you need to break apart an object. If there is a problem the Tween Symbol will not display correctly:

Almost always the error indicated by the dotted line in the Timeline is caused by an object not being broken apart correctly. Remember some objects are made of complex groups and may need to broken apart several times. An object that is broken apart into its most basic shape is always 'dotty' when highlighted:

Painted Shape: Broken Apart.

Options: When you have your Paint Brush Tool selected you will be able to use the options which will enable you to change the line width and shape:

To change the Brush's colour use the Paint Bucket:

To change the Colour of shapes that you have already painted select the Shape with the Selection Tool and then use the Paint Bucket:
